Weirdacles: being a kid can be—weird.

author’s message

My name is G.C. Gobin, and before I explain what Weirdacles is, I need to say something simple—I was a kid once!

I grew up in the late ’80s and ’90s, and while times have changed, two truths never will:

  1. Reading sparks imagination.

  2. Distractions always fight for kids’ attention.

Ages 8–12 are formative. If kids discover that reading can be fun, thrilling, and exciting during these years, they’ll carry that impression for life. That’s why I created Weirdacles—to give this age group stories that pull them in and make reading irresistible.

For me, it was R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps. Without those books, I might never have become the reader—or writer—I am today. Weirdacles shares some of that DNA: creepy concepts, real-life struggles like sibling rivalries or bullying, and page-turning suspense.

But here’s what makes Weirdacles unique: the Christian dynamic. Sometimes the protagonist is a Christian. Sometimes they’ve grown up around church. Sometimes they’re not Christian—but they know someone who is. This allows me to interject Biblical themes with a creepy twist or interject elements of the Christian world with a creepy twist. With this approach, Christian kids and non-Christian kids who have Christian friends will now have an opportunity to explore safe and creepy stories through that dynamic of relatability.

As these young readers explore the beauty of reading, entangle themselves in the thrill of creepy, but safe stories, they will without a doubt, be faced with this reality—Being a Kid Can be … weird.

Disclaimer: Our primary focus with the Weirdacles series is to let kids be kids. We create exciting, page-turning stories that cultivate a love for reading—without introducing adult themes like sexuality, gender identity, or politics.
