With distractions at every corner—whether it be social media, video games, or restlessness— the desire to read has steadily declined each year. Reading doesn’t only increase literacy, it expands creativity, imagination, and observational skills. So how can kids be encouraged to stay engaged with reading? First, give them material that excites them. Second, allow them to build connections with the authors who create those stories.
As someone who has had experience teaching kids in children’s ministries, I can share a few observations: one, kids are intelligent. Two, they can see through facades. But most importantly, they remember. My role as an author and speaker is to give them stories and experiences that are unforgettable—for all the right reasons.
